- A gold-mounted lacquer and tortoiseshell patch box, Paris, 1775-1780
- tortoiseshell, ivory, gilt-metal , gold
- 5.8cm., 2 1/4 in. and 7 cm., 3 in.
rectangular, lacquered in red with gold inlay, mounts and engraved thumbpiece, the interior with two hinged compartments with original tortoiseshell-handled brush, discharge mark of J.B. Fouache, and very small control of J.F. Kalendrin, 1789-92; and a tortoiseshell piqué and gilt-metal necessaire of upright tapering form, flowered ornament, the interior containing ivory slips, spoon and two glass scent bottles
Condition
Exterior of patch box faded and stained; lid replacement mirror spotted.
Exterior of necessaire appears to have suffered overall from heat or damp causing flaking and bubbling; lacking 3 implements and stoppers to bottles
