Description

  • Nine ivory letter/newspaper openers with gilt-metal and / or silver mounts, late 19th / early 20th century
  • ivory, silver, tortoiseshell
  • 36cm., 14 1/4 in to 67.5cm., 26 1/2 in. long
comprising: two very large curved ivory examples; another ivory example with Mary Roxburghe's monogram; another also with Mary Roxburghe's monogram, gilt-metal mounts forming a fleur de lys; three silver-mounted examples, one with the Earl of Crewe’s cipher, one with 1st Baron Houghton’s cipher, the third inscribed: From / J.M.P/ 1880 and with monogram RAM, probably for Robert Ashburton Milnes, and two silver and tortoiseshell examples, both London, 1898, one with inscription: C / from / O.B.S.

one with blade detached ; stains and cracks, would recommend viewing before Auction.
