  • cigarette box 15.5 cm., 6 in. wide; vesta boxes 10.5 cm., 4 in. high
the cigarette box rectangular, veneered in lapis with reeded cagework mounts, the openwork borders engraved and pierced with river gods, dolphins, aquatic motifs and scrolling foliage; the two vesta boxes of lantern form with three compartments, the top forming a scent bottle with rounded cap, also lapis-veneered, the vertical mounts scrolled, apparently unmarked

Provenance

Said to be a present from the Rothschild relatives;
displayed in prominent position in drawing room vitrine of Crewe House, in family photograph, circa 1937.

Condition

Need professional cleaning. Visible manufacturing joins and some cracks in lapis veneer on cigarette box. Vesta boxes with joins not cracks.
