Description

  • Ivory, Cow leather, silver, glass, mercury.
  • Equinoctial dial 7.5cm. 3in. long; Ivory dial 6.3cm. 2½in. diameter
of octagonal form with glazed compass, hinged chapter ring, signed on the latitude arc Haye A Paris, the border, ring and underside engraved with the names and latitudes of international cities, in a later red leather case; together with an ivory sundial/thermometer, Thomas Staight, London, circa 1825, the compass with paper scale signed T Staight, London, surrounded by a curved mercury thermometer with Fahrenheit and Reaumur scales, in a distressed red leather case

Condition

Silver dial in good condition. Later leather case for Clark, New Bond Street, in good clean condition. Ivory dial in good condition but rather dirty, thermometer glass tube is broken and contains mercury. Leather case has separated from base and is in distressed condition.
