Designed as three oval plaques depicting Classical scenes, each within a frame of rose diamonds, the hinges accented with natural pearls and cushion-shaped sapphires, length approximately 185mm, inscribed E. Bellosio Fece 1889, accompanied by later fitted case.

Condition

Mounted in gold and silver. Inscribed E. Bellosio Fece 1889. Sapphires medium blue, well matched, typical inclusions visible under magnification, abrasions consistent with wear. Pearls of cream colour, some hairline cracks visible. Diamonds bright and lively. Secure clasp. Abrasions to metal consistent with age and wear. Accompanied by later fitted case.

Eugenio Bellosio ( Milan 1847- Magreglio 1927) was an Italian famous engraver. Silversmith and goldsmith, Bellosio was very well known for his c♍omplex designs of flatware, chalices and inkwells in the Renaissance revival style  and for his silver altar for the church of S.Marta at Magreglio.
