• back-wound nickel lever duoplan movement, 17 jewels • cream dial, Arabic numerals, blued steel hands • platinum case, diamond-set bezel, lugs composed of baguette diamonds forming an M shape, case back with inscription • dial signed Cartier, movement signed European Watch & Clock Co., Inc. • with a black enamel and 18k pink gold deployant clasp
Condition
Movement running at the time of cataloging however it was not tested for accuracy and may need service at the buyer's discretion. The case in good condition with normal wear overall consistent with age. The band and back with surface scratches. The crown slightly loose. Dial in fair condition with patina and spotting consistent with age. Missing the minute hand. Case back is engraved ''Margaret Abell, Wash, DC.'

The present lot is a rare example of a custom🐓-designed bracelet watch by Cartier, with diamonds forming 'M' shapes to the lugs. It wa🧸s made for Margaret Abell, the great granddaughter of the founder and owner of the Baltimore Sun. Her father also continued the news business tradition by purchasing a newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia, which eventually became the Virginia Pilot.
A similar example, w𒆙ith an identical central design and 'M' motif, further enhanced by a 'Tutti Frutti' bracelet, is illustrated in 📖Nadelhoffer, H., Cartier, p. 170.
