- AN UNUSUAL GOLD AUTOMATON WATCHNO 239 CIRCA 1810

• 20’’’ gilt movement, two-train, three arm brass balance, the time and automaton movements sandwiched with both sharing a front plate • the six motion automaton consisting of two applied painted figures of a cooper hammering and a carpenter grinding, both flanking a painted fountain with twisting glass rods simulating flowing water, all against a painted ground of a park, activated by a lever to the case band, white enamel dial, Arabic numerals • gold case, both sides glazed, bezels set with pearls
Condition
Movement running at time of cataloging however not tested for the accuracy of time and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Automaton functions correctly. Case in fair condition with wear. Automaton scene painted in Vernis Martin style mostly complete however now with crazing to the scene overall, loss of paint to the left figures arm, hammer and boot. Right figure with light loss of paint to the arm. Two rods to the fountain are replaced with metal and are not glass. The automaton plate is lacking one or two screws and will require replacement in order to fasten it to the movement plate. The movment also lacks screws to secure the movement within the case and will require replacement. Dial in fair condition although with hairlines, discoloration around the center arbor and winding aperture, surface scratches. Movement in fair condition with scratches and patina.
