Patek Philippe create🍒d a small group of trip-repeating watches at the beginning of the last century, mostly for the American market. The present lot is exceedingly unusual in that it represents the only known Patek Philippe trip-repeating watch with a personalized dial, referred to as 'chiffres à légende'. The dial is personalized for Cameron Davis, the 6th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York, serving from 1931-1947. The watch is now being offered for the first time at auction from descendants of the original owner.

The watch was gifted to Davis in 1911, when he was serving as Rector of Trinity Church in Buffalo. It was presented by prominent upstate New Y꧟ork citizens, Robert Livingston and Melissa Dodge Pratt Fryer. The two descended, respectively, from Chancellor Robert Livingston and Pascꦚal P. Pratt, their families representing important commercial and political empires in the region.

When activated by depressing the crown, the trip repeat chimes the hours, quarters, and minutes on demand powered by the second train within the movement. As opposed to traditional repeaters that strike on demand via a spring-driven slide on the side of the case, trip repeaters allow the user to elegantly and effortlessly sound th🧜e repeater with the light p༺ush of a button.
