Condition

Figures in a red landscape - This illustration is published in the print catalog. Good and stable overall condition. Losses and wear to all four borders of the image. The image on the recto published in the catalog is in good condition with some distress only to brown pigments on the two shrubs and the short dohti worn by one of the male figures all clearly visible in catalog illustration. The image on the verso visible in the online catalog has some distress to the skin pigments of the figures pictured there in. Monks and Figures in a green landscape - This illustration is available in the online catalog. Good and stable overall condition. Wear to extremities due to age. Slight abrasions to green ground and slight losses to pigments on some of the faces and figures. inscription with no illustration on the verso. This lot is exhibited in a temporary frame.

Recto: Shalibhadra pulling out his hair and performing austerities (diksa) in renunciation of the material world.  Nuns conversing in the upper register.  Four lines of black ink devanagari text in Gujarati in the lower panel.  Verso: Twenty-two lines of text as above.

Recto: Shalibhadra and his wi🌳fe travel with their worldly possessions.  Eight lines of black and red devanagari text in the natural panel below.

Verso: A group traveling with their belongings and animals.  Six li🧜nes of text as above.

A folio from the same manuscript is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, cataloged there as a leaf from a Shalibhadra Man♛uscript (accession no. 1977.450.2) which has led to the present identification.
