Catalogue Note

Extravagantly inlaid with semi-precious stones, rock crystal and paste, this magnificent cabinet was commissioned by the late Maharaja of Bohr, Pantsachiv Shankarrao Chimnajirao (1871–1922), in 1898.

The front panels depict eight rock crystal Indian mahasiddhas on lotus thrones. The rock crystal is laid on colored foil in the Nepalese tradition. The gilt upper, lower and side panels with repoussé dragons and fierce kirtimukha grasping a snake between the teeth. Repoussé deities and protectors line the two lar🍃ge side panels.
