Catalogue Note
The rare folio from a Maratha album depicting Krishna in the guise of Vishnu both offering and receiving the adulation of female counterparts. They are possibly Kunti, mother of the Pandavas, at right, and Draupadi, wife of the Pandavas, at left. The composition divided into lateral registers of flat blocks of orange and yellow interior and exterior compartments. In the upper register, maidens line the turreted roofline of the palace. The work being an interplay of two-dimensional flattened architectural forms, combined with a naturalistic, shaded figural style suggesting both Deccani and Rajasthani influences meeting in Marathwada.
