Condition

The reverse of this work seems to be untampered with, although there are three horizontal sections of wood applied to the reverse that seem to nicely stabilize the panel. The surface is clean, varnished and retouched. The paint layer is slightly raised in three spots, two on the left side of the largest ostrich and one on its right, but these are not unstable and should not be tampered with. Under ultraviolet, one can see that there are a few dots of retouching in the extreme upper left corner and in two small spots on the left edge. The paint layer is unretouched within the picture proper. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
