Description
- gold, diamond, colored stone, platinum
The panels composed of charms depicting: a fisherman on a rowboat, a mailman, two floral bouquets and a sailboat, set with variously-shaped faceted and cabochon sapphires, rubies and emeralds, further accented by variously-cut diamonds weighing approximately 4.20 carats, gross weight approximately 84 dwts, internal circumference 7¼ inches; circa 1945.
Condition
In good condition, with some slight discoloration and tarnish to the gold and platinum respectively, commensurate with use. The cabochon rubies range from medium to medium-deep pinkish red, moderately to heavily included with examples of surface-reaching inclusions, cracks and chips, visible under close inspection. The cabochon sapphires are a medium-light to medium violetish blue and moderately to heavily included. The cabochon emeralds are a medium slightly bluish green, heavily included with examples of surface-reaching inclusions, fractures and abrasions at the facet junctions, visible under close inspection. The diamonds are approximately H-J color, VS-SI clarity with a few examples of I clarity stones. Two of the green stones, set into the postmans cap, appear to be green chalcedony. In addition, it is possible that some of the smaller calibré-cut stones are synthetic as often found in charms from this period. Internal circumference approximately 7 1/4 inches, fitted with a safety chain.
