Description
- Castellani
- gold, lapis lazuli, seed pearl
The lapis lazuli beads spaced by scrollwork motifs, accented by seed pearls, gross weight approximately 32 dwts, length 17 inches, signed with interlaced C's; circa 1875.
Literature
Castellani and Italian Archeological Jewelry, edited by Susan Weber Soros and Stefanie Walker, The Bard Graduate Center, New York, page 374, plate 167.
Condition
In good condition. The lapis lazuli beads are very dark violetish blue with white mottling from calcite and gold pyrite flecks. A few of the lapis beads have an irregular surface, which could be from age and wear, or from how the material originated. The seed pearls have a silvery white bodycolor, fair to good luster and soft rose and green overtones. A few of the seed pearls exhibit minor peeling and cracking. The gold has a nice patina commensurate with age.
Please note the pearls have not been tested for natural origin.
