Centering a cabochon sapphire weighing approximately 14.50 carats, flanked by two old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.00 carat, size 5¾; circa 1930.

Provenance

Sotheby's Geneva, Magnificent and Noble Jewels, May 1415, 2012, lot 494. As part of the Geneva sale in 2012, this ring was sold as the 'Property of a Princely Family.'

Condition

In fair condition. Overall light scratches and abrasions present from normal wear as well as indications of solder to the gallery of the ring. Indications of possible resizing to the shoulders of the ring shank. The semi-translucent sapphire displays a number of surface-reaching inclusions and light abrasion to the top of the cabochon. The sapphire has a nicely saturated medium violetish blue hue. The diamonds are approximately J-K color and SI clarity. Accompanied by GRS report no. GRS2012-031608 stating that the sapphire is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating.
