Description

  • JAR
  • urchin shell, diamond, sand
Composed of a textured sea urchin shell, the dial applied with sand and set with one single-cut diamond, the interior weighted with cemented sand for placing the clock upright, Seiko quartz movement, signed Jours de Jar Paris, numbered N0. 009, with French assay and maker's marks; circa 1999.

Condition

In good condition. The quartz movement is currently running. The outer shell has small spines and displays no wear. Upon removal of the movement, there is some tarnishing to the silver located where the movement sits. There is slight tarnishing to the case back of the movement as well. The diamond is approximately G-H color, VS clarity. Assay marks are for silver leading to assumption that the movement face is plated with rather than comprised of gold. Silver assay marks and French maker's mark found on both the metal of the urchin and the back of the case containing the whole movement. Please note that the Important Notice Regarding the Condition of Watches is on page 355 of the digital version of the catalogue.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
