Centering a sculptural cylinder applied with turquoise enamel, atop a rectangular onyx platform, accented by old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 4.00 carats, signed Cartier France, numbered 7668 and 3912, with French assay and maker's marks; circa 1930.
Condition
In good condition with overall surface wear and minor gold solder to the reverse. The uppermost layer of the turquoise-colored enamel bears shallow areas of chipping at the terminals akin a lost layer of paint, but this is seen only under magnification. Onyx remains in good condition. To operate, pull the cylinder away from its base to retract the "claws," then press against the fabric to secure the brooch and return the cylinder to its starting point. Best worn on thicker fabrics and should be attached when the garment isn't being worn. Measures 1 1/4 x 7/8 x 3 /4 inches.
