Literature
Forbes Watson (intro.), The John Quinn Collection of Paintings, Watercolours, Drawings and Sculpture, New York, 1927, p.17.
Condition
The canvas has been lined and appears sound.
There are some scattered lines of very fine craquelure, only visible upon very close inspection. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals several very small areas of florescence, including two spots at the lower right edge, some further flecks in the light purple pigment at the centre of the composition, another in the orange pigment of the trees and one further area at the centre of the upper horizontal edge. These appear to correspond with sensitively executed areas of retouching.
The work is presented in a gilt fluted frame.
