Condition
This luminous early contact print is on double-weight paper with a surface sheen. It is in generally very good condition. Age-appropriate silvering in the dark areas is visible when the print is examined in raking light. Upon very close examination near the left edge is a linear tear that runs the length of the print, and which has been expertly repaired on the reverse. This is not immediately apparent when viewing the print from a normal distance, and does not detract from the overall fine appearance of this early contact print.
On the reverse of the print are Walker Evans's name stamp (Keller A) and partial numerical notation '20' in an unidentified hand in pencil.
Judith Keller's book, 'Walker Evans: The Getty Museum Collection ,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the stamps and labels Evans used throughout his career. No date is given for Evans's name stamp (Keller A) that appears on the reverse of this print.
