Condition

This photograph, on semi-glossy paper and with an impressive range of tones, is in generally excellent condition. The following are visible only upon extremely close examination in high raking light: a 1½-inch scratch in the lower left quadrant and a few pin-point-sized impressions and insignificant surface scratches overall, none of which appears to break the emulsion. There is a tiny, white raised area in the upper portion of the image, possibly a flaw in the paper. There is a tiny nick of the emulsion along the right edge. The print is mounted to thin, off-white card. It is appropriately age-darkened at the edges, and it exhibits faint foxing and some soiling on both sides. There are thin, yellowed adhesive remnants also on the reverse. In addition to the photographer's negative number written in his hand, it is written in an unidentified hand in duplicate on the reverse. At the time of this writing, it is believed that only two other prints of this image have been offered at auction. In addition to the print of this image in the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, Conger locates prints in the following institutional collections: Art Institute of Chicago; Indiana University Art Museum at Bloomington; Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art Association; and Special Collections, University of California, Santa Cruz, this last a Project Print.
