Description
- Diane Arbus/Neil Selkirk
- 'BURLESQUE COMMEDIENNE IN HER DRESSING ROOM, ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.'
- gelatin silver print
signed, titled, dated, and annotated by Doon Arbus, the photographer's daughter, in ink and stamped on the reverse, 1963, printed later by Neil Selkirk (MoMA, unpaginated)
Condition
This print is in generally very good condition. In raking light, the following are visible: scattered pin-point and thin linear impressions that do not appear to break the emulsion; a few sharp creases that do not appear to break the emulsion; a small, slightly matte area in the center portion of the image, possibly retouching; and a few tiny yellow deposits of indeterminate nature, one near the upper edge of the image, and two in the upper margin.
There are some pale yellow striations in the lower margin, likely from processing. The lower margin is also slightly unevenly trimmed. There is some tacky adhesive residue near the right margin edge.
There are four cloth tape remnants along the upper edge on the reverse.
The upper margin is trimmed, and the estate/copyright and reproduction rights stamps are on the trimmed upper portion of the margin, which is hinged to the backing board. The copyright stamp appears to be dated '63' in ink. The credit stamp, annotated by Doon Arbus, is split between the upper trimmed margin and the top of the reverse of the print.
