Catalogue Note

This modern palladium print of one of Dubreuil’s best-known compositions was made by Dubreuil authority Tom Jacobson, in cooperation with the photographer’s descendants.  Using Dubreuil’s own diapositive, which the photographer made from his original glass plate-negative, Jacobson made an enlarged negative.  The high quality of Dubreuil’s diapositive allowed Jacobson to capture all of the image’s minute detail and the full range of tones visible in the original oil prints from the 1930s.

It is believed that only two lifetime prints of The First Round are extant.
