- matte-surface albumen print
matte-surface albumen print, numbered '113N' in the negative, titled and numbered '113N' in pencil and with the photographer's 'Rue Campagne-Première' stamp, annotated '17bis' in pencil, on the reverse, circa 1900
Condition
Grading this warm-toned, matte-surface albumen print on a scale of 1 to 10 -- a 10 being a print with rich dark chocolate brown tones and creamy highlights that retain all of their original detail -- this print rates a 9. The sky area has yellowed very slightly. The edges are very lightly rubbed, with some tiny losses. It is in overall very good condition.
In 'The Work of Atget. Volume III: The Ancien Regime,' Maria Morris Hambourg publishes a chart which dates Atget's photographs by their series and negative numbers. Our dating of this print is based upon the author's assessment of the photographer's series and negative numbers. According to the chart, and Atget's negative number '113N,' this photograph was taken circa 1900 (cf. The Work of Atget. Volume III: The Ancien Regime, pp. 181-85).
