Condition

This print, on heavy, semi-glossy paper, is in generally very good condition. In raking light, several faint diagonal, superficial scratches, which do not appear to break the emulsion, are visible in the lower right corner. Frank's title and date in the margin are faded, and the margin is intermittently age-darkened. The margins are lightly soiled and worn from handling. The Robert Frank Archive stamp is annotated 'Americans 69,' 'Drug Store - Detroit,' and '486' in an unidentified hand in pencil. It is believed that only 5 other prints of this image have previously been offered at auction.

Catalogue Note

“Sitting around in the drugstore.  I remember often going into Woolworth's. I photographed a lot. . .  I'd get a Coke. . .  Normally when I came to a town, it was the first place I went to.  For some reason I found it very heartening”  Robert Frank
