Description

enamelled in translucent red over engine-turned bands, polished rim border and circular spreading foot, the scroll handle set with a silver 10 kopek 'grivennik' dated 1789, gilt interior, struck with workmaster's initials and K. Fabergé in Cyrillic, 88 standard, scratched inventory number 8385

Provenance

Purchased from Fabergé by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna for 45 roubles for her journey to Skierniewice, Poland, in 1903; recorded in the ledgers of the Imperial Cabinet, 10 September 1903. We are grateful to Svetlana Chestnykh for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.

Condition

Very good condition. The interior gilding worn, almost to the silver. The relief elements of the coin slightly worn on both sides. The enamel with very light surface scratches consistent with age and handling.
