Description

  • width of each 9.7cm, 3 7/8 in.
the first Pavel Volkov, Moscow, 1899-1908, the surface of raised chevrons, with tinder cord channel and vesta compartment, gilt interior, the interior of the lid engraved 'To G. S. Arbuthnot from Budhyai (?)/ Nov 1902'; the second with maker's mark I.K. (Cyrillic), St Petersburg, 1908-1917, the surface of reeded sunburst pattern; both with sapphire thumbpiece, both 84 standard, the second with Russian control mark L (Cyrillic) denoting objects displayed for public sale

Condition

Both in excellent condition. The hinge of the match compartment of the first very slightly askew and the interior with evidence of having previously been gilt. The second with light scratches to the interior.
