Catalogue Note
An eminent political figure in Paris, Adolphe Turrel (1856-1945) was Minister of Public Works in Paris from 29 April 1896 to 28 June 1898. He was responsible for overseeing the plans for the Gare d'Orsay, the Paris Métro and the Pont Alexandre III. It was in recognition of his contribution to the construction of the bridge named in honour of the Emperor's late father that Nicholas II bestowed the Order of the White Eagle upon Turrel during the State Visit. In later life, Turrel established a successful vineyard in Corbières.
