Catalogue Note
The son of an aristocratic Russian diplomat and an American opera singer, Troubetzkoy was very well positioned to capture the glittering world of the international elite at the turn of the twentieth century. The present lot depicts the daughter of wealthy industrialist and senator William A. Clark, sister-in-law to Celia Tobin Clark (see lot 27), and reflects demand for sculptures as society portraits.
