in animated posture with both hands raised in gesture and ornamented with thick bracelets, her distinguished face marked by beaded tattoos on the chin, a bead on the forehead and coiffure falling in a single plait down the back.

Overall good, has clean break and repair at elbows and PL shoulder, restoration on thumbs.

Catalogue Note

This tall, full-bodied female figure represents the one of the two principal Maya female deities, the Moon Goddess, shown in idealized voluptuous form. She bears the fine scarification beading along her chin and raises her arms in gesture. There are a small number of these corpulent female figures with arms raised, see Berjonneau, Deletaille and Sonnery (1985: Fig. 400) for the figure in the Princeton University Art Museum; see also Miller (1975, Fig. 70).
