Catalogue Note

Some of the most elaborate and complex ceremonial attire is seen on the solid figurines from the Comala and nearby Jalisco regions. This figure, prominently showing his phallus, functions as a whistle from the top of the head, intending it for ceremonial use. It is supported on a small platform balancing the figure for the massive removable headdress which incorporates a basket-weave  mask. For other dancers, see Townsend, ed. (1998:257).
