Discussing another portrait mask topped with horns, Boyer (2008: 149) notes that the horns, "in compliance with the dualism typical of Baule culture (starting with the binary opposition of village and wilderness), are no arbitrary adjuncts but signs of a language that extends a being beyond its natural limits."
