OIl on canvas. Canvas is wax-lined. SURFACE: in fair condition; discolored varnish; widely-spaced craquelure, most noticeable in sky; pigment separation in the water; pressed, abraded surface; scattered spots of turned repaints, mostly in sails; a probable paint loss, left of second-largest ship (left of center). UNDER UV: scattered inapinting thorughout and craquelure fill in the waves; scattered spots of inpainting in right half of sky and inpainting along all edges.
