Catalogue Note
Emory Takacs was a prisoner serving a sentence for armed robbery at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. He worked at the Penitentiary dental office where he had access to tools with which he carved this diorama—a "memory piece" of characters and life of an 1890s bar at 10th and Race Street in Philadelphia.
