Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Foley, for either Thomas, third baron Foley of Kidderminster (1780-1833), or his son, Thomas Henry, fourth baron (1808-1869). Thomas, the third baron, succeeded his father in 1793 and married in 1806 Lady Cecilia Olivia Geraldine Fitzgerald, fifth daughter of William Robert Fitzgerald, second duke of Leinster. During the last two years of his life the baron was lord lieutenant of Worcestershire. Thomas Henry married in 1849 Lady Mary Charlotte Howard, eldest daughter of Henry, 13th duke of Norfolk.
The other pair of candelabra are now in the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, described in Timothy B. Schroder, The Gilbert Collection of Gold and Silver, 1988, no. 112. This second pair has a central sconce instead of the finial. The bud finial carries Philip Rundell's mark, whose mark appears on a pair of very similar candelabra hallꦚmarked 1820 and with the arms of Sir Richard Sutton, sold Christie's, March 31, 1976, lot 126.
