Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Hamilton, as borne by the Earl of Clanbrassil (extinct in 1798) with another in pretence, probably for James Hamilton of Neilsbrook, Co. Antrim, whose daughter and eventual heir Anne Hamilton married Hans Stevenson Esq. Their only son James Stevenson had an elder daughter Dorcas Stevenson, m. Sir John Blackwood, Bart. of Ballyleidy Co. Down and was created 1800 Baroness Dufferin and Claneboye, a peerage enjoyed by her descendant Frederick Temple, Earl of Dufferin and 5th Baron Dufferin and Claneboye K.P., senior heir general of the Hamiltons, Earls of Clanbrassil.
