probably Schreizheim, modelled as a bird perched on a shell-edged oval platter.

Condition

The cover: The tip of one tail is chipped away from a previously restored area. The crest of the bird has some abrasions to the edges. The tureen and fixed stand: The stand has been broken into several pieces and put back together with old restoration that has yellowed and has mostly flaked. The tureen has been off the stand and restored back. There is a short haircrack running down the side of the tureen from the rimedge.

A chicken tureen, cover and fixed stand, modelled similarly to the present example, is illustrated in the Catalogue of the Georg Kitzinger Collection of Faïence, sold at Hugo Helbing in Munich, 1912, no. 517, pl. 38. Another similar chicken tureen, cover and fixed stand from the Collection of late Count and Countess Guy du Boisrouvray was sold in these rooms, October 28, 1989, lot 313.
