Catalogue Note

A Dorotheenthal faïence sheep box and cover similarly modelled to the present example and painted around the neck and tail with flowers is illustrated in Eduard Fuchs and Paul Heiland, Die Deutsche Fayence-Kultur, p. 160, cat no. 101 b, where the authors date it to circa 1755.
