Catalogue Note

Eduard Winger (1812-1886) was an acclaimed actor of the 19th-century theater in Germany. Ludwig Eisenberg mentions in his book, Grosses biographisches Lexicon der deutschen Bühne im XIX. Jahrhundert, p. 1131, that Winger's talent as indisputable even in the early stages of his career. Winger started in the Hoftheater in 1831 with the role "Lafarra" in the play Johanna von Montsaucon and remained as a key actor there until his retirement in 1874, which the present vase commemorates.
