Catalogue Note
Grand Duchess Vera Konstantinovna was the daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich (1827-1892) and granddaughter of Emperor Nicholas I. She married in 1874 Duke Eugen of Wurttemburg. On his death just three years later, she preferred to stay in her adopted country, though travelling to visit family in Germany, Russia, and Greece.
The Grand Duchess was involved with numerous charitable institutions in Russia and Germany, and this tea glass holder was presumably a gift from a grateful patient. It formed part of a large group of items belonging to the Grand Duchꦦesꦺs, her aunt Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, and her daughters which were sold in Munich in 2008.
