Catalogue Note

Fabergé workmaster Alfred Thielemann was active only until 1910, but his son continued to work for the firm and might have continued to use his father's workshop mark, as was often the practice in Russia. The box itself must be dated between 1914, the year the city of St. Petersburg was renamed Petrograd, and 1917. It is possible that the brooch remained in stock and was placed in a later box.
