Description

with borders of running leaf-and-berry and scrolling grapevine and with panels of scalework alternating with flowerheads, one side applied with accollé arms and the other with presentation inscription, the cover chased with leaf-tips, with bud finial, weighted base

a few small dings throughout, the cover interior rim dented, finial pushed down slightly on one side, otherwise good

Catalogue Note

The inscription reads "To the Revd. Samuel Glasse D.D. from the ELDER BRETHREN of the TRINITY HOUSE In Testimony of Respect and Affection."

The arms are those of Trinity House accollé with those of Glasse. Trinity House is the official lighthouse authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands, and Gibraltar. It was founded by royal charter in 1514 by Henry VIII. Its headquarters in London were built by Samuel Wyatt in 1796.
