Description

  • Wool. Stained pine. Turned mahogany.
  • largest: 13cm. high, 44cm. wide, 44cm. deep; 5in., 1ft. 5½in., 1ft. 5½in.
the larger covered with a repeated foliate pattern on flattened bun feet, the smaller with a drop-in panel later covered with a geometric pattern on squat baluster turned legs together with a modern example with machine woven covering depicting a dancing squirrel, on turned ebonised pine feet (3)

Literature

The larger illustrated in the upstairs Drawing Room at Chesterfield Street, the London residence of the 11th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Lady Sophia Topley, The World of Interiors, 'Mayfair Lady', March 2005, p. 109.

Condition

Wear to each textile covering from age and use and some old stains. Marks to wooden elements. Each, particularly the earlier panels would benefit from a deep clean. Smallest 18 by 23 by 31cm. Squirrel covered example 12 by 36 by 36cm.
