Catalogue Note
Elbert Hubbard, founder of the Roycroft Press, had travelled to England in 1892 where he met William Morris and learnt of the Kelmscott Press. On his return to New York, he founded the "Roycroft Shop" which was named after the printers Samuel and Thomas Roycroft (active in London c.1650-1690), and particularly appealed to Hubbard because of its derivation from roi craft, meaning "King's craft".
