The illustration of the catalogue is accurate. There are the inevitable dents, marks and scratches due to age and use. There are chips, losses and restorations to the carved elements, especially to the frieze. Both legs have been broken and restored to the mid-part. Both lion paw feet have been restored and probably replaced. The frieze has been reinforced with two wooden blocks (to the upper part of the legs). The console was previously gilt. An impressive console with an exceptional carving for the late Louis XIV period.

This table is comparable to works by the Société pour les Bâtiments du Roi and more precisely art done by the sculptors Jules Degoullons, André and Matthieu Le Goupil, Pierre Taupin and Marin Bellan and relates to the portfolio of ornamentation, in particular that of Pierre Le Pautre, Livre de Tables qui sont dans les appartements du Roy sur lesquels sont posés les bijoux du Cabinet des médailles ('Book of Tables in the King's apartments on which the jewels from the Medal cabinet are placed') published around 1700. All these sculptors were employed by the Crown, but found themselves being employed on outdoor construction sites, following the decrease in the number of Royal building projects. These craftsmen thus participated in embellishments and creations for the Palais-Royal for the future Regent Philippe d'Orléans, Place Vendôme under the direction of Robert de Cotte's and at Bercy for the château of Charles-Henri II of Malon. Our console table adopts the same movement of curves and counter-curves to the uprights as well as the same foliated clasps and volutes along the apron, realized around 1713 for the aforementioned Bercy château. Placed in the large room on the ground floor between the two bay windows, it was listed in the inventory of Charles-Henri II of Malon. Sold in 1860 before the destruction of the château, it was purchased by the Imperial Furniture Repository and is now in the collection of the Louvre (inv. OA 5088).
