Condition
Manuscript scroll: (Height of parchment: 5 3/4 in.; 146 mm:: Height of text: 4 7/8 in.; 124 mm). Written in ink on parchment, in an eclectic hand; 39-43 lines; 125 columns on 24 membranes, most sewn with gidin, a few starting; others sewn with thread or affixed with clips; some tears between text columns, repaired; several scribal text repairs; otherwise creased and worn as expected. Covered with: a blue velvet mantle embroidered with yellow thread, incorporating a star of David, and the Hebrew letters Kaf and Tav (for Keter Torah). Mounted on wooden rollers. The present scroll has many of the letters in the final three verses of the Torah, written in outline only. These letters have been purposely left incomplete by the scribe in order to bestow a special honor on the patron(s) of the Scroll. By filling in the outlined letters, the patron(s) accrue the merit and spiritual reward of having fulfilled the mitzvah of "writing" the scroll.
