Catalogue Note

In 1970, Rolex introduced two new Cosmograph Daytona models, reference 6262 and 6264. Both were produced in stainless steel and small quantities in gold (both 14k and 18k) for a relatively short period of time.

Ref. 6262 and 6264 are with different bezel configuration: 6262 in metal with engraved tachometer graduations and 6264 in black plastic insert with printed. Both references are the last Rolex chronographs to be equipped with push-down buttons and are powered by the calibre 727.

The present lot is further enhanced by the Daytona designation curved above the central sub-dial. Originally the word 'Daytona' on the dial is believed to be white when it left the factory. However, over time the word 'Daytona' had progressively turned into this attractive light blue tone. The present lot will be of great interest to collectors due to its rarity and aesthetic details of the dial.
