Catalogue Note

With a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, an instruction manual and a presentation box.

All enamel dials of Ref. 5077 were done by hand using the ancient art of cloisonné. Cloisonné is a process where a design is created on a blank canvas (the dial) using thin strips of gold joined to the base that create a border between colours. Considered a ‘lost art’, each enameller will usually have a creation of their own specially formulated colours with which to work, including a colour chart to use as a guide, since the material changes in appearance when heated. The process can be extremely lengthy as each colour has to be fire separately at a different temperature. This also increases the chances of failure as the firing process is incredibly delicate; even tꦜhe most skilled and experienced enameller could lose months of work due to unforeseeable cracking during the process. Due to the process in which the dials are made, each watch in the series can be considered unique.  A wonderful cloisonné watch dial like Lots 2337/2338 is truly a miniature work of art which will last for generations.

The auspicious koi carps swimming around the water lilies evoke an archaic ambience that harks back to ancient Chinese traditions. It was believed that the Yellow River of China was too filthy for fish to survive, if carp in the river manages to survive and leaps over the gate of dragon, then the carp can become a dragon. In essence, suchღ proverb is used to bless one to progress in the coming New Year. Koi Fish in Japan also symbolizes good luck, abundance and perseverance.

Ref. 5077/100R-011 brings out the best of🌌 the West and the East by masterfully combining Patek Philippe’s magnificent craftsmanship of watchmaking tradition and the auspicious Asian symboওl, koi carp, in one single timepiece.
