• 20’’’ gilt half plate movement with double roller lever escapement, 14 jewels in screwed settings, fusee and raised barrel, diamond endstone • off-white enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, blued steel hands, outer minute track, up/down indication at 12 • 18k yellow gold case, case back with engraving of a winged fortress, gold cuvette • hallmarked London 1894, No 07664, case maker's mark HMF
Condition
The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. Case in very good condition with light scratches overall consistent with age and use. Dial in very good condition with light pitting at 1 to 3 o'clock. Some very light surface spotting around 3 o'clock. Movement in very good condition.

Catalogue Note
Accompanied by a Certificate of Origin dated 4 November 2015 from Charles Frodsham & Co., Ltd., confirming manufacture in 1894. The certificate further notes that the movement was supplied by Preston in 1888.
The present lot is a classic example of Frodsham up/down watch. The movement, supplied in 1888, was originally bওorn as in a hunting𝓰 case and was transferred to the current open face case in 1894, confirmed by Charles Frodsham & Co., Ltd.
