Condition
The canvas is not lined. There is a milky layer of varnish preventing the UV light from fully penetrating, however UV examination reveals an area of retouching to the left part of the lower edge (approx. 7cm. long) as well as some smaller retouchings to the extreme upper left corner and three minor spots to the background; there also appear to be some old retouchings below the varnish towards the centre of the upper edge. There are scattered fine lines of stable craquelure to the composition, most prominently an area to the lower part of the figure's legs which is suggestive of an historic impact. There are some small areas of paint loss towards the lower left corner (the largest of which is approx. 1cm. long) and some further minor flecks in places. This work is in overall good condition.
