The Great Forest Wall Project
This project is a movement to create "life-saving forests that function as seawalls" along the northeastern coast of Japan affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
By organising tree planting, we first build five-meter-high mounting from soil, then with the help of volunteers and local residents, we plant pots of evergreen broadleaf trees that are indigenous to the area, such as castanopsis, machilus, and oak. The planted evergreen trees will strike root deep in the ground from four to six meters, and in 15 to 20 years they will grow into reliable forests that act as buffers against possible tsunami attacks.

"This Great Forest Wall Project is wisdom and knowledge that we have acquired by experiencing the unprecedented earthquake disaster, which we must pass down to the next generation to protect human life." says Morihiro Hosokawa who is former Japanese Prime Minister and current President of this project.
One of the most renowned global architec♏t nowadays, Ando Tadao, is one of the advisory board members who hasꦡ supported The Great Forest Wall Project since its foundation.
For this occasion, Hosokawa has donated the present lot and collaborated with Ando Tadao on lot 2916 to raise money for the foundation. Two more works for the charity are offered in Contemporary A꧅sian Ar🅷t Day Sale on 4th April.
